Why Vulcanize Splices?
Goodyear Tire and Rubber recommend vulcanized splices.
Here's their reasons:
- Safer and more dependable. Many vulcanized splices last the life of the belt. They give longer warnings of failure while requiring much less attention than mechanical clips.
- Freedom from tear hazards.
- A tight joint to hold material.
- A joint as smooth as the belt itself, free from clanking impact with pulleys, idlers and cleaning devices.
- More strength in the splice with the possible reduction in the number of plies.
- Freedom from fastener bending stresses over small pulleys.
- Elimination of accelerated heat deterioration caused by fasteners.
- More economical, no more fasteners to replace.
- Freedom from fasteners wearing out causing lost production time.
